People ask. Potential clients ask.. how I got into this. I personally found the benefits of decluttering and organization through years of self-discovery and sanity seeking. Then came the idea, like a little nudge, to take this antidote to stress outside of my own home.
It was the summer of 2021 when a good friend of mine and I were talking about making changes in our lives, and holding our own selves back. She asked me, “What would you do if you had the opportunity and confidence to make a big change?”
What a question. I told her I would help people put their homes together – the overwhelming part that I have worked through over the years: the clutter, organization, and personal style. You see, I haven’t always been an organized person. These skills were born out of necessity, really. As I became a mother (of five!) and our family grew, naturally so did the things that filled our home.
The more we accumulated, the more overwhelmed I became. There was a direct relationship between clutter and my mood. Over the years, little by little, the process of simplification became my therapy.
The feeling of letting go of these physical objects that held me back – things that guilted, isolated and kept me anxious for years – has been truly freeing and the thought of giving this freedom to others still makes me ecstatic.
So that conversation was the catalyst. I devoured books on the subject, educated myself, and found a mentor. I couldn’t let the idea go. With exactly one paying client, I decided to take the leap and quit my job in finance to pursue this little dream and haven’t looked back. Maybe this is your little nudge!
-Do what you love. But first, declutter.
